This has been something thats been annoying me for some time, and i just decided to share it with all of you. And see if anyone else gets the problem, or if there is a patch. This will randomly happen when im online in Internet Explorer 7 and click or looking at stuff. Anything. When i click on something, or maybe try to scroll, it goes to google with it having searched a really long seemingly random internet address. Most recently this happened when i was on youtube, i click my messages, i think, and it opened google, saying i tried to google, "www.doubleclick.ad" Or something like that. It was much longer but i dont remember the rest. Anyway, i would just like to hear some feed back so i know its not my computer (and i dont think it is), and if there is a patch or something. It gets REALLY annoying after the 50th time, and i try to go back and click again, and it happens AGAIN! Thanks for any feedback! |

It either looks like a trojan which tries to let you click on the author's weblink (arguably to raise the clicks on his banner) or a user activated gesture/shortcut from an installed IE component/application (in that case, try uninstalling the toolbars you have and other browser related applications). It's highly unlikely that IE natively has an issue or a command which launches a competitor's search engine. :) |

Almost definitely a browser hijack. I'd start by running checks with Windows Defender, AdAware, CWShredder and HijackThis. |
| ||
And Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ Rootkit Revealer can be useful as well if the threat isn't recognized by the tools above, but only for experienced users: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897445.aspx |
| ||
I vote spybot for number 1, I love that program. |
| ||
Definitely a web jacker. I have known a bit of free software that is useful to use, install adware that makes IE 6/7 do this type of behavior ( and is a b**tard to remove ). |
| ||
Oh really? So its spyware kind of stuff? Good thing i posted here. Thanks for your helo everyone, im downloading Spybot now. Its wierd that happened though, i run a spy sweeper check nearly every other day.. how did it not pick it up? Oh and IF this is an april fools joke. Dont be cruel. :) |
| ||
spy sweeper is kind of useless. and the adress you have there could be from adware that you actually installed yourself like the that can optionally be installed side a side to daemon tools and a few other freeware applications. |
| ||
spy sweeper is kind of useless. Really? Then what would you recomend? I was kind of getting that feeling, every time it tells me i have nothing wrong with my computer. I dont think i take THAT good care of it. And the Spybot is a great program. I found alot of problems, and im pretty sure i found the hijacker as well. One of the problems was called Doubleclick, which is always the website name when it happens. Anyway, thanks for the help everone! And some tips on what program i SHOULD use would be great, if any of you have the time |

Really? Then what would you recomend? SpyBot appears to be the best, although it's an unfortunately reality that a single anti-spyware program isn't enough anymore -- they all have their own strengths and weeknesses, but none of them catch everything. (To put it in perspective -- IIRC correctly spybot will detect and remove ~120,000 different pieces of malware, but there's still more out there. A never-ending arms-race. It's a sad fact that there's simply too much money to be made through spyware. |

Firefox + NoScript = no more problems like this. |

Firefox + NoScript = no more problems like this. I feel like a noob having to ask all these questions. lol. But wat is no script? It's a sad fact that there's simply too much money to be made through spyware. It really is sad. |
| ||
But wat is no script? It's a plugin for firefox that prevent scripts from running on your computer... Which can prevent a lot of the drive-by malware downloads. |

A Virusscanner could help too. You could try to Restore in Windows to a date in which you didn't had this problem. If those 2 don't help you could either try looking for stuff in the Windows registry that starts up together with Window, but only remove/change stuff there if you know what you are doing. Last option is backup everything important and do a reinstall and install a good virusscanner right away to prevent this in the first place. |
| ||
Just use Opera or FireFox :) |
| ||
The fastest way I find to solve virus infections is to back up any thing important and clean install a fresh copy of windows (from a backup). |
| ||
On Windows I use Acronis True Image to create a 1on1 backup regularly. For Linux I used Acronis True Image to create a backup of a fully installed system and am using sbackup to do a daily backup to a 2nd drive. Restoring those backups is a hell of lot faster then doing a reinstall. No more manual restoring files and directories :-). Something you could do is boot up a Linux live cd that comes with a virus scanner. Then scan your hard drive for viruses. Some viruses beat the virus scanners for windows. Worth a try. |
| ||
I must say I prefer fresh install for the following two reasons : 1. Who says your backup isn't still infected, fresh install is a way to be sure. 2. Installing the latest drivers for graphics card etc. directly saves more room on your harddrive (No old files) and you are sure you are using the latest drivers. It takes a bit longer to install, but you are sure you won't have to restore the pc anytime soon. |
