Book? manual? Have i been conned?
Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/Book? manual? Have i been conned?

Hi, i looked at blitz about 3 months ago then put it on a back burner due to lack of time. I got around to buying it about a week ago, and after a quick look at the legal nonsense on this site regarding blitz, i thought it was only fair to buy it from this site and d/l it. But i now see that the boxed version being sold by igicon or whatever thier name is comes with a printed manual and tutorials included. I've had a look through the d/l version and i cant seem to find it... What is in this manual? Is it just the command reference and scancodes that come with the d/l version, or have i missed out on the manual becuase i bought it from a legit seller? If so, is there anywhere i can d/l a pdf version of it? thanks folks ~V~ |

The electronic docs are actually more up-to-date than the printed manual. IMHO you haven't missed out on a lot. Be sure to download the product and documentation updates though - you'll want the latest versions. M |

When I bought blitzbasic I got it from Idigicon ages ago, then bout Blitz+ from this site. I figured that it was no big deal to not have the manual as the offline reference was handy to have. |

Ah, the wonderous, mystical manual. :) Well, firstly, you did the right thing getting Blitz from this site which I believe is now the only LEGITIMATE source for buying it. Now available as a d/l only version, though. As for the manual, you're not really missing out on anything as it's mainly just a command reference (now vastly out-of-date) and mine also came with a whole section of pages missing. :( There are a few very basic tutorials in it but nothing you can't live without, imo. Studying the large amount of demo code - that I assume you also get with the d/l version - would be more useful, I suspect. There has been talk around here of a PDF (i.e. printable)version but I don't think one exists as of yet. To sum up, I really wouldn't sweat about not having the manual - I was actually pretty disappointed with it, anyway. Have fun! :) |

FYI, I think the tuts (or passable replacements) are included in the docs that come with Blitz. |

The manual smells nice, but it wears off. I couldn't even locate mine if I needed to (which I don't, because the electronic documents are better IMHO). As to whether you're missing out on anything by not having the manual, I wouldn't know. I haven't read it. |

My manual has been AWOL 6 months now... no idea where it is, and no need for it, so RIP for all I care! BlitzCoder has some beginner level tuts too, if you need them, but once you're past "Hello World" the manual is no longer really needed as it don't even have half the commands Blitz has now. But I *would* like to get current set of commands as a downloadable .PDF because it's a handy "toilet reading", or coding stuff without PC. |

yeah, i know what u mean, it seems easier IMHO to commit stuff read on paper to memory that it is to do it with info on a PC screen. Ah nm, If the tut's in the manual is that basic then it probally wont be any help anyway. Well, thanks guys... i suppose i had better get back to this tiling function :D ~V~ |
