hi what sort of camera ranges are you guys up using as im trying to get a big big world...im upto 20,000 are there any tips n tricks i should know about cheers Dave |

It isn't so much the camera distance, as the number of polygons drawn at once. My video card can draw 55,000 polys at 100 fps. as I get higher than that my frame rate starts going down. I can't get more then 100 fps because my video card draws fps according to the screen refresh rate. My cards maximum refresh rate is 100 hz. Thus 100 fps. Below I have listed my system specs. I hope this will help. |

Keep your near camera range as far away from you as you can manage for good z-buffer performance. This link will tell you more on the subject. http://www.sjbaker.org/steve/omniv/love_your_z_buffer.html |

If image quality is important, then use a multi-pass approch to rendering...it can slow the frame rate but you would be able to see both near and far without problems... 1)set the camera range from say 5,000 to 20,000 2)renderworld 3)clear off only the Z-buffer 4)then set the camera range from 1 to 5,000 5)renderworld, again 6)then flip the buffer and repeat from step 1 |

thanks guys the multi-pass looks like a good idea |
