Does the 3ds file format export the textures with the 3d objects or not? I seem to get mixed results with various 3d programs such as Cinema 4d v6 and others. Also I sometimes find that Blitz 3d does not recognise models with the direct x file format. i get " Entity does not exist" message. |

there are diffrent .X Versions. DirectX 8 (bones etc.) doesn't work. Textures must be assigned correctly, then it will load them automaticly, if they can be found. You better put the textures in the same folder like the meshes, already when working with Cinema4D. |

The 3ds format is old. And I mean ollllllllllllllld. It uses the old 8.3 dos format for filenames. It will store filenames for textures, but they are truncated to fit the 8.3 format. So MyTexture105.jpg will be renamed to MyTextur.jpg. Best to use another format or ensure all your textures fit the 8.3 format. |

The 3ds format is perfect for blitz3d, so use it. Texturecoordinates are included in the 3ds, but the texturefile itself is not. But just load the texture and assign it to the entity. |

The 3ds format is perfect for blitz3d, so use it No it isn't. It lacks all kinds of features that the b3d format has, including real animation, full path lengths, probably a ton of other stuff. There's really no reason for using 3ds any more. It has nothing over b3d. but the texturefile itself is not If you mean the name of the texture is not embedded in the 3ds file, you're wrong. If you mean the actual texture itself isn't embedded, well of course it isn't. No model formats include embedded textures, and I don't think that's what Gord was asking. |
