Bump Mapping How?
Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/Bump Mapping How?
| ||
In VERY simple terms - How would I produce,say a `wooden crate` that is textured and bump mapped to give the crate a more solid,realistic look.So that when looked at from different angles with different light sources you would see `bump map` detailing (eg.highlights between the planks or highlight on nails etc) What I really want to know in detail is how you produce a bump map for/from a texture and how the textures are `mixed/layered` and applied to the model(box in this case) Hope this makes sense to somebody because it seems a very under documented area of BLITZ3D Cheers Ginge |

"very under documented area of BLITZ3D" That is becuase blitz doens't support bump maps |
| ||
But it does support Dot3 normal mapping. Search this site for normal mapping of Dot3 and you will find loads of examples. |
| ||
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=33163 Try that. It's not as easy as applying the normal map and letting it go though. I've posted some stuff further down, as to how it works. Hope that helps some :) |

Get a grey scale bump map, downlaod nVidia's Photoshop normal map plugin, converter save and apply! Thats all there is too it i think :) |
| ||
but photoshop costs about 4000$ right? |
| ||
Well, it's not cheap, but it is available from Amazon.com for $599.99 at the below link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=br_ss_hs/102-2374064-1970558?search-alias=aps&keywords=photoshop |

I don't even think it was $4000 a year ago when this post was last among the living. |
| ||
It never has been $4000, maybe $500. But an educational discount you can get it for about $200. And in photoshop just go to Filters/Render/Lighting Effects And play with the bottom most options. |

Look in my sig, for heightmap to normal-map convertor. |
