A RPG include

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/A RPG include

I'm planning on making a few rpg's in my life as a game coder. Ok, it maybe a stupid idea but, I was thinking of just making a .bb file that contained functions which most rpgs would use, and then including it into the main file of my rpgs. I would make this include available for free if I find some way to do so. What kinds of functions/types would people want to see if I did so?
This is a very future project, (I'm moving to no PC land for 6 - 12 months, ahh!) but I'm looking to plan the file out while I'm gone.

This sounds like a really great idea as it will allow RPG to made a lot quicker it will be a bit like the various MMORPG engines otu there!

puki(Posted 2004) [#3]
The functunality of 'Morrowind' would be nice. Or, perhaps, Gothic 1/2. So, if you don't have them, buy them and emulate their engines - not graphically though. See you in a year.

You're on the right course with an RPG include. In my spare time, I'm doing the same thing! I'm 65% finished with it. See ya later!

Agamer(Posted 2004) [#5]
O wow I have not heard of all tehsse rpg engines things oo I can not wait to get my hands on thesse and make a rpg!

Or I could code it from scratch!

Are you bitter Agamer? You sound unsupportive! Perhaps something has gone terribly wrong in your life! Perhaps you took a bite off a bad apple, and need to throw some frustration around!, Or are you just having a bad day?

puki(Posted 2004) [#7]
"Jellon's" project is a bit odd though - considering he may not commence it for a year - and after that it will probably take several months (at least), if not another year. Still, I love RPG's.

Are you bitter Agamer?

Agamer sounds like that normally.

Agamer(Posted 2004) [#9]
I ain't no more bitter than normal but I sopouse I am a bitter person, but thanks for the concern!

Ultima 7 has everything you need to learn.

Jellon(Posted 2004) [#11]
Well actually I found I have a PC here, but no place I'm allowed to store the files to program the include.

ckob(Posted 2004) [#12]
good idea, might have alot of repeating things in all the RPG'S if you use the same thing for them but overall it will speed up Dev time. If you need webspace go to this thread Jellon.

bank system
trade system
npc system ai/movement scripts
shop system
enemy system ai/movement scripts

when i have no place to store the files, i used to use my trusty floppy disk. (if any of you ever played den bros 4 over on bc.com, it used to fit into 100k of memory- including textures...)...and these days i use my mp3 player as a hard drive ^.^ *hint hint*

Agamer(Posted 2004) [#15]
I use my trusty flash disk ahh flash disks what wonderful things!

Well, I think you need to narrow down the description a little.
Even though there are lots of similarities :

"Character has skills/abilities, kills things, solves puzzles, buys/sells objects and goes up levels"

The term 'RPG's is really quite vast now (alll games involve playing-a-role, in fact) whether the traditional NWN or Morrowind type game, a more action-oriented, Diablo-type thingy, or the old 2D style things (is it Zelda or Final Fantasy), plus 'japanese' games like FF7, Jade Coccoon etc.

Depending on which type of game you wish to cater for, will affect the detail of the engine files you create.

Good luck, though - I am sure such files will be really useful.

This is all that came up.
