Anyone have Sloan Kelly's guide to BMax?

I'm sort of on the fence regarding that BlitzMax Game Programming guide that Sloan Kelly published, and still wondering if it's really a recommended tutorial book at all. I mean, I don't want to feel ripped off with that book, is where I'm getting at. Is the code accurate? Are the methods used really easy to explain and not going to get me lost, etc...? I mean, easiness, and such, that should be a good way to learn the difference between BlitzMax and other Blitz products, because I hear that there is a difference in BlitzMax, and BlitzPlus/Blitz3D code. The reason I had B+/B3D like that, is that I know that B3D is truly backwards compatible to B+, unlike BMax. |

I hear that there is a difference in BlitzMax, and BlitzPlus/Blitz3D code. Why not download the demo and work thorough Wave's introductory text? It'll give you a good feel for what Max is about. |

The book is a very good book. I have it and found it useful for learning BlitzMax. Wave's intro is also good as well, especially since it is free. The examples do work, and the read is in plain English with all source code explained. Even the print is easy enough to read as its all on 8x10 paper, and large print. There are source code samples found in the book for download on his site as well. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to start with BlitzMax. |

I have it too and I think it's quite good. But I also use some of the other tutorials in the blitzmax fourms. Thanks must go to both Wave and Assari (and others) for some good guides. |
