So many choices... What is the general opinion here about free (or almost free) dynamics engines? Are the for-profit engines significantly better than the free ones? {EDIT: Preferably cross-platform} Russell |

what is a dynamics engine? |

... and what are the current choices? |

Fisics...innit! |

(Assuming it's about them fisics whatyacallit) Spend some of your green if you think a commercial engine is better than a free one. I would stick with a free one. I have used Tokamak in the past and it felt nice. ODE is a more popular choice. There is a few more too. Nice link with shiny links on it: http://abattoir.wolfpaw.net/personal/gamelibs.php#maths ... Y'all. |

ODE has a nice api easily accessible via C as well as C++ (have a look on my site theres an example of doing collision callbacks in Max) Works nicely in Linux or Win32 (no mac to test with!) Newton is quite good and has convex hulls and "prefab" vehicles - not sure what its like in other OS's |

deps, you used tokamak with BlitzMAX? Is there a wrapper for it or did you create your own? I've tried it with Blitz3D and liked it, but couldn't get it to work on BMax with OpenGL. |
