It's missing that "little something" that would make it cool :)

Mmmmm... eye candy :)

That is nice but OTT

Too EA Games esque. Too bland. There's nothing that really screams 'wow, look at that!' about it- nothing memorable that'll make me keep that link in my head.

Now, I honestly can't think of something that would make it more original and 'wow'-inducing, but hey, you're original folks- you should be able to think of something.

IMO the URL should have much tighter kerning, so that the overall width is the same as the line above... it would make it more readable that way too.

Colors / overall look is bit "plastic", usually ppl go for chrome-like effects in these... check the the logo we have in 3DMark03 demo start, I think it's coolish and has same circular logo than you have.

But with catchy jingle tune (like Intel etc) this should be OK.

the second one is very very cool!!!

OTT ??

OTT = "Over The Top" I think.

FoX(Posted 2004) [#9]
Ah :D

I like the second one. Has more punch to it. The effect is cool to watch and makes it a lot more memorable.

scribbla(Posted 2004) [#11]
i like the 2nd...but looked out of place..should show the blue streaky thing cuting a hole in a blank page, disk falls out to reveal the logo

Paul "Taiphoz"(Posted 2004) [#12]
I think its OTT as well. BUT it looks cool as hell, any chance you could tell me how you did that, as I am also working on an intro, What Im going to end up with is a steal plate having the company name burned out of it with a laser, like your thing.

So any help would be amazing. thanks.

[edit : Oh yeah the first one looks better, nice and simple. ]

The second one is a stock effect in probably adobe after effects, or premiere.

LOL... not even close :)

I work in the television broadcast industry and believe me, the little bit of flash that was added in the 2nd example is certainly not OTT (as you would say).

Anyway, in my line of work the first example would be rejected by the client. The second example the client would gladly pay a few thousand $$$ extra for the "flash".
Not bad for a couple more minutes of work :)

Isn't a 3.5 meg intro animation fro a website or a game that will be distributed as shareware a bit much? :-)

Well the lightning is clearly a premade effect. The particles for smoke/glow are just created with a path. Whatever you used, it was predefined.

Considering half the logos you see out there don't have some gimmmicky lighting/particle effect, I'd say it is OTT. (this is a matter of taste so not really worth arguing about)

But what if the client said "I want a smart simple logo, that doesn't have any over the top gimmicky effects that have no relevance to the actual design of the rest of the intro ?" :P

Check the filename.
