Was able to rig up a character bip in 3dMax, get it inside Milkshape and re-rig it (thanks to Tranz for the walkthrough). As a result of appling mocaps to the bip inside max - I give you 'Norule' the undead roman guardian. (Model by Tranz!) small avi 200k-ish (simple karatee move) http://www.viszero.addr.com/temp/norule1.zip larger avi 2mb-ish (let's just say this one leaves something to the imagination, over 700 frames of mocap animation... ignore the sword slice at the begining, I rushed the rig on the hands, PS this isn't a serious game animation.. just for kicks..) http://www.viszero.addr.com/temp/norule2.zip |

A bit 'graceful' :) for such a big, mean, ugly guy, but the motion animation is really good! Looks great! MK |

hey neat! Kinda like "Spartacus meets Flashdance" ;o) |

oi wikid! What's the score with this motion capture business? What do you need and how much does it cost? |

Very nice animation - its a pity that mo-cap equipment and files are so expensive. The cheapest and most basic of mo-cap equipment I have seen cost about $7000. Individual mo-cap files of just a few seconds duration can cost hundreds even thousands - good business oportunity maybe ! |

For poor mans mocap, check out: http://www.geeware.com and stock files on: http://www.e-motek.com/entertainment/index.htm (untested) |

Coools - thanks Peter. |

most of us just buy a couple of motion capture cds - you can then just fudge almost any kind of motion possible by blending/mixing/cropping motions etc... |
| ||
Where do you get cheap motion capture CDs. And where's your new Max exporter Rob? |

Dude, the Romans would have totally owned if they were that physical, stupid guys just marched like hell! [Not that they didn't already own, mind you ;)] |

Just spent some time checking out e-Motek site - you can download a huge number of animated movements when you register. Problem for me was that the supported file-types are Maya, Lightwave, 3DStudio Max, SoftImage3D and "other". I have Truespace. One of the options is a bvh file format (and another called UNICA ??) I recall seeing much discussion about a bvh importer/convertor a while back, but can't seem to find it in the code archive or using Search. I found a 'incomplete, will never be finished' bvh->TS plugin, which I haven't tried yet... I will report back on any success. Hmm, just thought - there are likely some convertors for the other progs listed above available as plugins. Later on that too. |
