Hi,

Just a little test of the realtime deformation helper class of Haaf's Game Engine. I'd love to get some FPS figures and compatibility results from you guys. If it works, just post specs and the FPS please. If it doesn't work, please post the contents of hge_tut05.log. ( I won't be able to fix it, but it's vital to know how compatible these functions are. )

Thanks.

Looks nice, but I'm wondering if its fast enough for realtime effects?

I get around 964-998 FPS here on a x850xt-pe.

BlitzSupport(Posted 2006) [#3]
About 980 here on Radeon 9800, which seems plenty fast for realtime effects...

big10p(Posted 2006) [#4]
Works great here.

~335 FPS

Athlon 1Ghz, GeForce2 GTS 32MB, 256MB RAM, Win98SE.

ervin(Posted 2006) [#5]
I'm getting around 616 fps on a P4 3.4Ghz laptop with Radeon x600 video.

Helios(Posted 2006) [#6]
Works here.
I get about 162 but thats probably because my graphics card is pretty awfull.

trb(Posted 2006) [#7]
410 FPS, smooth as silk.

Radeon 9000 64mb, p3 1 ghz.

Ross C(Posted 2006) [#8]
800 fps on all 3 modes

Duckstab[o](Posted 2006) [#9]

LineOf7s(Posted 2006) [#10]
A steady 195 fps.

joncom2000(Posted 2006) [#11]
Between 560 and 580 on a Radeon X1300

Gabriel(Posted 2006) [#12]
Nice results so far, thanks guys.

Helios : Any chance you could tell me what your "pretty awful" video card is?

Grisu : Well the author of HGE says it can be used in realtime, but I wanted to check. Judging by the results, if used sparingly it shouldn't be a problem. That's a 16x16 deformation grid, which is probably as much as you're ever going to want unless you're doing something very hardcore/specific. So yeah, looks like it's plenty fast enough for real time use.

I'd still love to hear from more people, particularly if anyone has any onboard videocards or obscure laptop cards that might not be able to cope with vertex buffer objects. I'm not sure whether it will fail or just be slow.

Gabriel(Posted 2006) [#20]
Nice. I'm particularly happy with the results on the S3 and Mobility 7500 cards. If it works on those and with reasonable speed, I guess I can assume that this is safe to use across the board, as long as it's used sparingly.
