Hi, Hover havok has a very short dev time left, its getting close. I picked this project back up after 2 years of dust and decay !In doing so i had to toss The Galaxy Project on the shelf :( Here are some WIP video clips. Please be gentle! :) The Game has great music, and sound , but i did not capture sound in these clips.

6 of the 8 cars were modelled by Psionic. 2 of them were Modelled by Togamario. All the tracks so far were modelled by Psionic.

Here are some shots in case you dont like to download or stream movies

I know the UVs on the ramp need some attention. ill be taking care of that.

Hey looks cool, kinda like MarioKart. Are you releasing a demo soon?

btw http://www.wordreference.com/definition/coarse ;-)

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#3]
Yes, I think I can have the demo ready by Friday.

Thanks for the word clarification :)

puki(Posted 2006) [#4]
Interesting.

Uber Lieutenant(Posted 2006) [#5]
The GUI needs some pimping before it gets released, in my opinion.

For one, abbreviate the lap count to something like "Lap 2/3" (second lap out of three). Players are going to pick up the information faster than having it written out like it is now.

Also, you might want to consider putting the current inventory item icon top center instead of bottom right. Yes, this is just like Mario Kart, but it really works up there.

Lastly, you're limiting the rank from 1 to 4? If the player is in 6th place, tell him he's in 6th place, not that he's out. It better tells him or her how they're doing in the current standing and it's not very fun to be told that if you're not in the top four, you don't count.

Just my advice.

Grisu(Posted 2006) [#6]
I like the gui and style. :)

Make sure you have high-res textures included as they look blurry atm.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#7]
i think its hard to see anything thats not blurry in a compressed wvm clip :)

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#8]

Well, beyond third you dont get any points for winning, wich is to say you're out, but I just may do that anyway, thanks. The reason behid alot of the gui design is that I want to keep vram requirements very very low, so the fewer textures for the gui the better

like "Lap 2/3"

Yeah ill probably do that as well, just replace "of" with "/"

SopiSoft(Posted 2006) [#9]
Looks cool, but seems a bit slow in racing speed, i'd prefer it to be a bit faster. ;)

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#10]
yeah the videos look much slower than the gameplay, for some reason even though i asked fraps to capture 60fps , it seemed to me fraps made the game slow down a little when it was recording.

Tyler(Posted 2006) [#11]
If it's playing back at 29.97 (~30) frames per seconds and you've captured at 60 FPS, then you've got two seconds for every one second of actual game time. At least I think that sounds right in my head :) Anyone else?

Yan(Posted 2006) [#12]
Nice one...Another project that seemed dead and buried re-appear's out of the blue. :o)

Is this still being published Jeff?

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#13]
Yeah

Murilo(Posted 2006) [#14]
This looks really promising.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#15]
thanks. I made some modifications to the in game displays.

i could have put a demo out yesterday, but im on a polishing frenzy. ill have it out very soon though.. Thanks for all the comments.

Nmuta(Posted 2006) [#16]
I like the Gui a lot. I also like the "Nintendo" look and all of the subtleties .. particle accents everywhere, cool camera effects, the smoothness of the Hovers, (like the 360 camera effect on the big jumps), etc.

GfK(Posted 2006) [#17]
The pace of the game looks far too slow for me - capturing with FRAPS does make things seem slightly slower, but not to this extent. It does say something when the player is doing mid-air spins on jumps to entertain himself...

Also, your power-up shadows don't disappear when you collect 'em.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#18]
The shadows do vanish now, the fraps capture was not done at a time when things were demo ready. and yes fraps hit the speed alot.

As far as hitting ramps at mid turn to do 180s and 360s ?, I think it says its fun to hit the mega jumps. :) Not to mention there could be a reason for it, one is to shoot the car behind you, the other would be to hit the track going the opposite direction if the track turned to go back around or under the ramp , theres also plenty of entertainment, aside from the powerups and weapons, and 7 other cars to compete against, each track has obstacles of its own, from errupting volcanos, to critters that can get in your way, as well as a time trial you can race to beat, once thats done, you can always compete against your own best time.

im suprised you are so critical since you had just posted how blitzers are not very helpfull for testing your games :).

http://www.blitzbasic.co.nz/Community/posts.php?topic=59412#661882

I really think the game runs at a good speed, when the demo is out , there will be somthing to judge that by , im not happy with the fraps capture in that regard.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#19]
Demo link below. Im interested in performance on low/mid range system setups. So if you try this, please tell me if it ran ok. I only have two test machines, neither are very old.

FYI, these are hover cars, the sliding about is the way i think they should 'handle' ive gotten a few , they are hard to control comments, but all of them were followed by "after a few tries, i got used to it, and like it" ,

The demo features all 8 cars, but only one track. You can try the differnt cars, or try to beat the best track time , wich is hard to do, but is possible.

The full Game has 16 tracks, and a bonus mode if you get ALL the game points ( 1 point per car per track, and one point per track for beating best time, totalling 144 points in the game) Vintage, and Bullet are the fastest cars

Tyler(Posted 2006) [#20]
Played, loved :D Once you get the hang of the controls, it's a fun ride trying to knock off the other guys :D

Addicting :)

xmlspy(Posted 2006) [#21]
The controls did seem a little bit weird at first, but they made sense since the vehicles don't have wheels. The AI players are freaking fast, I tried a few times and I still couldn't catch up to the first three spots. Love the graphic style!

Red Ocktober(Posted 2006) [#22]
i just checked out a few of the vids... Really Nice!!! congrats on getting it done...

will test out the demo later tonight...

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#23]
Thanks, theres a sound issue in the demo , the listener wasnt set up properly, ive fixed that, and am reuploading the demo now. EDIT. new demo uploaded, same link as above.
EDIT.. demo updated again.

Tyler(Posted 2006) [#24]
New bug report from me (since I've been playing the heck out of it for the last few hours). Sometimes when I pass the bots, my spot # doesn't improve, and after that, it never does no matter how many I pass. I'm not sure what brings it about. Also, sometimes it feels like I've done way more than just 4 laps? That could just be me, but I'll try it again, and count them out.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#25]
keep an eye on your arrow too, you may have took a shortcut and "cheated" so to speak, if the arrow is pointing behind you you have to go back :) i did fix a bug similar to that, ive already uploaded the new demo if you wanted to try that.

Tyler(Posted 2006) [#26]
Oh, that is sharp :D That cheating is the only way I made it to the front of the line, lol. Ce la vie.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#27]
Ok, ive updated the demo again, thanks. I added a wrong way warning.

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#28]
Demo updated again, download size but in half. I think thats it, unless a bug is found :)

Grisu(Posted 2006) [#29]
Could you add "1280x1024" resolution as an option?
Replace the b3d icon?

RifRaf(Posted 2006) [#30]
ill get around to the icon eventually. I got a few complaints about the steering being too sensative, I reduced the steering intensity by 30%. updated the demo. .again.

I actually was able to test it on a very low spec machine. celeron processor, 4meg intel video chipset.. ran very good, although there were some 3d anomalies i chalk up to the limited card abilities and ram. Some sprites lost transparency/mask settings from time to time. Even with that I found the test a success as im not trying to support 4 meg cards.

Grisu(Posted 2006) [#31]
Could you add some cartoony clouds to the skybox?
Simple Weather effects (Rain, Snow, Sunny)

Possible bug I found:
I was driving around the corner when a rocket was shot at me. It smashed into the ground (sides of the curves and exploded) but I still got hit?
