I was going for a subtle engine heat effect. Please let me know what you think. http://www.zamagames.com/movies/ZFEBuild0020.wmv |

To be perfectly honest I didn't notice any heat shimmer... there was a bit of exhaust but that's all. |

I was trying to do something similar to heat shimmer. It's the best I can do without access to shaders. EDIT: Ok but did the exhaust look cool?! :) |

Looks pretty good. Personally I'd increase the exhaust sprite/quad spawning rate and decrease their life, to make the exhaust look more like a constant stream. At the moment, it looks too much like the puff-puff-puff of train smoke, which looks a bit odd for a jet engine, to me. |

A jet engine doesn't really give off a noticeable exhaust trail, since most jet engines use kerosene and they use it very efficiently. You could always use cubic mapping on a qwirkly looking sphere or what not to give the 'heat' effect of a jet engine. |

Actually, I saw two F-15s take off yesterday and they left vague long smoke trails. I think it has a bit to do with the weather. But, in the spirit of the game, I'm gonna put some shimmery heat something or other that represents the raw burning power pouring out of the engines. :) |

I believe the exhaust trail only exists for a few seconds after take-off. |

Actually, I saw two F-15s take off yesterday and they left vague long smoke trails. Actually I think those are called Contrails that Jets give off (not smoke) not like chemtrails that prop planes give off (still not smoke) :-) Here's your linky: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/wxwise/class/contrail.html |

Contrails are white. What I saw was dark. It was a sparse smoky trail. It depends on the throttle setting and the weather. Btw, it's the same light smoky trail I've been seeing for 17 years since I started working on the F-15. :) |
