Hi everyone!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally after several delays, and some nightmare texture problems, the next version of Robo Attack3D is ready! http://www.filefront.com/14251627/Robo-Attack-New-Version.zip/ This version improves on the first one considerably. To begin with, it now has a title screen, and the player now has lives. When he loses all his lives, he is sent back to the title screen, where he can choose to play again, or go into the options screen and select a lower difficulty level. Also there are now 3 levels. Two normal levels, and a special boss level. After you clear the third level, you go back to the first level and then onto the second, then the third, and so on in an endless loop trying to get the highest score that you can. Three new powerups have been added, along with new kinds of enemy robots, and a unique boss for each and every level. Hope you enjoy the game! And last of all, Major Thanks to Pongo, for the awesome Lighthouse Logo! WERDNA |

Which file is it? |

Whoops, lol. I should have mentioned that. I was feeling a bit zoned out after completing it that I wasn't thinking clearly :) Robo Attack New Version is the one to download. lol. I'll remove the other robo attacks to avoid confusion. (File front is feeling iffy right now, I can't delete any files. Just download the one with the most recent date, named Robo Attack New Version) Enjoy! |

Hey WERDNA, Gave it a play, not bad. Couple things though: -I fell off the level a ton of times, and I'm not really sure what happened. Did the level reset? Is it a new level? Perhaps you should not let the player fall off the level, because I was very confused as to what was going on. -I kind of think there are too many bubbles to collect. With the arrow key control scheme, its difficult to get every single bubble. Perhaps you could do a follow routine, so when you get close to the bubbles they follow you? (Think Sonic 3 and the lightning powerup) -It played a bit choppy at times. 3 Gb RAM, Intel Core Duo 2.10 Mhz, Vista Home 32 bit, (forgot graphics card, nVidia Geforce something... can run BioShock though so its decent). -Like the sound and music. -Title screen is good. -The help file looked funny when I brought it up. I suggest using plain text format (.txt) or do it in HTML. Good job though overall, no bugs (that I could tell) or problems running it. |

this is where version numbers and or date stamp file names become your friends |

When you fall off the level you lose 1\4 of your health and respawn above the level(This can be glitchy at times, and will be fixed in the next version) The vacuum powerup can help you get bubbles\dots faster, but perhaps I can have a very low range version of the vacuum powerup active at all times to act like the lightning shield in sonic. When did it play choppy? I tested this several times on my cheapo laptop, and it ran pretty fast most of the time. Thanks to Wolrons awesome FPS code from about 4 years ago, the game speed should remain constant, no matter what the actual frame rate is. Some of the problems you had could be Vista specific, because I made this on XP, and don't know much about Vista. Although making the help file in plain text is probably a good idea. Glad that you found no bugs! I spent days getting rid of them all, lol. It really sucked programming this. And finally, old versions of robo attack have been removed to avoid confusion :) Now that this version is finally done, I will take a brief break from working on Robo Attack(There will be plenty more versions to come) and just code some dumb, just for fun stuff!(Like a new Duncan the blind man game:) WERDNA |

Yeah I felt confused playing it, I didn't know if I was doing good or failing miserably. I'll try again tomorrow if I have time. |

ScreenShots added at last :) |

Ok, obviously this version of robo attack is somewhat underwhelming. The first version reach 45 downloads in 3 days, and went all the way to 105 eventually, getting some amazing feedback in the process. This one on the other hand, is at only 18 downloads, and was uploaded 15 days ago :( So I definitely need to fix some things. I received this e-mail from a friend of mine. Werdna, without even trying, i went through your game once and got 31065 as my score (I had to commit suicide to end it). Your game is to easy, the enemies feel like a nuisance more than a threat (Also they tend to get stuck in craters in the level with the different terrains levels) They don't hit hard enough, they dont spawn often enough, and one can just go to the edge of the map, wait for them to accumulate, jump off sacrificing a small amount of health, and they will all follow you down and it will get rid of em. Onto bosses, i don't know if it was intentional, but your first boss would sit around and let me beat the crap out of it for a long while, then all of the sudden go rape mode on me (It was the only time i lost a life) Your second boss let me beat the crap out of it till it was at quarter health before it started to teleport and shoot missiles, which were easily dodgable btw. The final boss's arm would respawn in wierd places (Like behind me when the robot was infront of me) Overall the bosses are a good concept, but need tweaking to provide an actual challenge. Also, i'd advise you to not make the levels loop, its better for a player to try their hardest to get a lot of points in one run through. Also, i could have gone on infinetly in your game, my lives were increasing and my health was WAY over maximum (It took me 6 jumps off the side of the map for my health to be visibly going down, since i had so god d**n much) I would suggest you remove the health recovery power up, and not give extra lives. Lastly, the powerup that lets u shoot a spread of bullets at once is very laggy when you rapid fire. Once some fine tuning is done, im sure this game will be really fun! I agree with this completely after reading it, and would like to know if any of you want to add something to this critique before I begin work on the next version. Thanks, WERDNA |

Sorry I keep being the one to post here, I'm surprised no one else has tried it. After playing the game my suggestion is to really sit down and think about what you're trying to accomplish in this game gameplay wise. Obviously this game has Arcade style aspects; the high score, bosses, levels, powerups and a bit repetitive gameplay. This is fine, but for your game to really be appreciated today, it needs to really look stellar. Particle effects, stereo sound, etc. In todays gaming world with short attention spans, these are crucial. However, you may be trying to create a more Action/Adventure style game. In this case, you need to add more to the game than just collecting balls. Some sort of in depth storyline, puzzle solving, or a strategic aspect. Perhaps rather than a ton of enemies, have fewer, stronger, and above all else, smarter enemies. Work on solid AI that requires the player to think about how to conquer enemies. In short, your game is in a No Mans Land when it comes to genre, and I think this should be sorted out so you can "fill out" the game gameplay wise. I hope that makes sense. |

WERDNA, did you take it off of Filefront? It's saying the page cannot be found. |

Heres another link. Not sure whats wrong with the old one. http://www.filefront.com/14251627/Robo-Attack-New-Version.zip/ Sorry I keep being the one to post here, Hey its fine Sauer, you give good feedback :) I'm surprised no one else has tried it. I have my clan on warcraft 3 as a good back up when I don't get to many downloads here :) And yeah, what you say makes perfect sense. I think I'm going for an arcade game, instead of an action\adventure game, but I'll try to make it more fun. I'm thinking of increasing the size of the dots considerably to make them easier to grab. Also I'll make the enemy bots more effective, and try to think of some other element to put in besides just collecting dots and destroying robots. Thanks a lot Sauer! WERDNA |
