Monkey has escaped!

The new massively multi platform language Monkey is now available.

An evolution of the popular Blitz range of compilers, Monkey can generate code for the following platforms:

* HTML5
* Native OpenGL/OpenAL (Windows + Mac)
* Android
* Flash
* iOS
* XNA

Grab the fully functional html5 demo from the store now and give it a whirl!

Great! Am I customer #1? *g*

RetroRusty(Posted 2011) [#9]
Congratulations to Mark and the team on getting Monkey finally out of it's cage. I downloaded the demo, had a play and I just had to buy it. It's awesome so far.

Indiepath(Posted 2011) [#10]
Hello all, looks like time to dust off some of some of my old design documents and get making games again :)

Qube(Posted 2011) [#11]
Bought the full version, yay! :D

Unfortunately, I have to have dinner now (fiancee demanding I go out and buy a Chinese) so I won't get to play for a while yet, booo, lol.

Difference(Posted 2011) [#12]
Congratulations!

Canardian(Posted 2011) [#13]
Am I number six? I tested the demo version, but it works only on Windows and creates HTML5 apps, now I will test the commercial version :)

STDCPP target doesn't work, it gives some compiler error:
---------------------------
Monk
---------------------------
Compile Error

File 'H:/prg/MonkeyPro29/modules/mojo/native/mojo.stdcpp.cpp' not found.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

But GLFW works! I guess it's somekind of OpenGL framework. But for some reason it seems to use my VS2010 C++, and not MinGW or VS2008 C++.

DruggedBunny(Posted 2011) [#14]
STDCPP won't compile mojo projects -- it's only for command-line programs (or potentially programs using non-mojo frameworks).

dopeyrulz(Posted 2011) [#15]
Mark,

Congrats and thanks again for releasing another great language! Can't wait to get some Monkey time!

impixi(Posted 2011) [#16]
Looking good!

Well done guys! :)

Really looking forward to giving this a go.

Here I am!

New toy to play with... nice!

PLS

Hi to all!
I'm on board... just testing with monk editor....

Just a side note:

why Print statement is not automatically highlighted?
Can be manually altered?
As monkey is - sigh! - case sensitive is quite annoying to write Print everytime (as monkey-newbe I will use Print as 'debug' output...).

PS:

I like (very much!) the 'light' syntax: End to close a block of data is just fantastic!
Nice work Mark!

PPS: nice site too! I like the 'app section'!

edited:

...monk editor is based - of course - on the Bmax's one, nothing strange about this.
But if I choose to save my source I would like to save with the 'correct' extension for monkey (.monkey) not .bmx!!!

Xaron(Posted 2011) [#26]
Actually I LOVE that case sensitive style. All in all a very solid start!

Canardian(Posted 2011) [#27]
I like the case sensitivity too, and capital first letters, it makes so much nicer to read code (from others! I would format my source anyway clean :)).

Wildebeest(Posted 2011) [#28]
Greetings all.
It was the horsey demo that did it for me to be honest.

MikeHart(Posted 2011) [#29]
Wohooo, I am in!

Hello to all the monkeys here ;-)

Richard Betson(Posted 2011) [#30]
Greetings^ ;)

Amon(Posted 2011) [#31]
Greetings! I have now my own Monkey! ANd I will enjoy it. :)

xlsior(Posted 2011) [#32]
Successfully compiled to HTML5, Flash and Android so far -- nice start!

RiK(Posted 2011) [#33]
Yay! I think my first task will be to convert my old shooter demo that was in the BlitzMax install (well the much later development of it) into Monkey and get it running on my iPad :)

Grisu(Posted 2011) [#34]
Hi guys!

Where are the bananas hidden? ;)

I'd like to port PRP to iOS.
Is there an audio middleware (such as fmod) available for monkey yet?

Perturbatio(Posted 2011) [#35]
