has anyone tried to release without hardware ?

Just wondering if anyone has tried releasing or sending a game in for review without testing it on a hardware device, ie using only the emulators. Reason I ask is that a friend via facebook just told me they had, and had no issues. Wondering if hes an anomaly or if anyone here has tried. clearly testing on the hardware is a good idea, but if the emulators are good enough then why is it a must or is it a must. |

Of course you can do it... and I guess you are talking about submitting to Apple, they will just fail it and send a bug report to you to fix, if it crashes. When Monkey was released (maybe a couple of months later) and I was testing my game on the simulator it worked fine, but when I tested it on an actual device it was slower and crashed! It is a risk to release without testing it on an actual device. Of course with Android, you cant really test all the devices out there! |

I would get some hardware to test on. Why? Because I heard, that if you send to many builds that crash on them or will be rejected because you don't follow their guidelines, the might cancel your dev membership and your right to distribute into the appstore. |

Mike is that a "Bob down the pub said jim told him that sally's dad said" type of things or do you have proof of that. Therevills I was thinking about Android, for a start the low price per app is a lot more manageable, but I dont have an Android phone hence this post, had my contact on facebook not told me that he had actually done it and does it, I would probably never have even considered it. And I guess your right, with so many android devices you simply cant test for them all, so I wonder what the store approvers test on, do they test on the simulator or do they pick some random phone and test on that, or do they test it on them all. |

The first. I read it somewhere in the internet, but of course I didn't save that link. So forget what I said and proceed as you like. Let me know please how it worked out, I am curious about it. |

so I wonder what the store approvers test on For Android, there are no store approvers, you just got to abide by Google's T&Cs. And of course if users they try your game and it doesnt work or work well you risk a bad review or two... |

I think that's one of the Androids biggest flaws, where iPhone and WP7 seem so far to be far more standardized Android seems to be more of a mess. But then that's true for almost everything linux based so maybe its not all that surprising after all. |
