I talked with the Monkey team and they agreed to let me post this: I work for Microsoft in the USA and specifically on Windows Phone 7. We have already seen a number of great games written using Monkey posted to our Windows Phone 7 store from companies like COBBLECROWD - http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/publishers/COBBLECROWD?appid=c554fbb4-dded-4e3e-9410-b0663047ac51&name=COBBLECROWD They have posted: Blotty Pots LITE Blotty Pots Battleship Tic Tac Toe WARGAMES Schiffe Versenken My question to you all is how many of you Monkey guys are based in the USA? Would you have interest in getting your game into the Windows Phone 7 marketplace?. Monkey represents a great way for coders to get their work into the Windows Phone 7 marketplace. If you are USA based please reach out and lets talk! Please feel free to contact me direct at jodonnel@... thanks for reading John O'Donnell Microsoft USA jodonnel@... http://www.twitter.com/jodonnel |

Hey John, nice to see you here! :) I think WP7 is a great platform. Do you have any German reps as well? ;) Just some feedback from me if it's ok for you. 1) I really like the way you do the submission stuff. Just upload the binary, that's all. No certificate stuff on my side! 2) Your AppHub needs some polishing. I'd like to see the payment numbers before I crossed the minimum payment line. Your statistics need some strong rework as well. 3) Are you aware of any changes coming with Windows 8? I mean will WP7 XNA apps still work on WP8? Thanks! |

Feedback ? :) We have released 2 games currently in the Windows Market (UK based). Its not been the best experience I must say so far. (i agree with Xaron) 1) The marketplace HUB is dire, the stats seem hit and miss, games are left in the marketpalce but then marked as "in submission" in the hub etc... 2) I have to load using chrome as firefox doesnt work at all 3) The impending scrapping of XNA isnt the best prospect as us users will have to wait for others to update the windows mobile target..... 4) There seem to be alot of portals etc for use Indies to pedal our wares for android and IOS but doesn't seem much for windows mobile? How about getting a way to encourage us Indies to actual put time into creating stuff for the windows mobile? /StuC |

I'm definitely going to be pushing apps to Windows devices. With Monkey there is no reason why not. Totally excited, beside myself really. |

Hmm... were we too harsh? ;) |

Also aiming to release on WP7 as my first platform UK based here. Not put anything up yet but will do soon, nice to see that Microsoft are paying attention to what we all know is an amazing tool, monkey. |

The good news is that if you create WP7 apps now they will work on our next phone release as well. If you publish an app to our Windows Phone store be sure to email me at jodonnel@... While I cannot promise fame and fortune, if you develop a fun game using Monkey for Windows Phone 7 I would at least like the opportunity to get the word out. While I am USA based please reach out no matter where you are in the world if you plan to bring your monkey apps to Windows Phone 7 thanks John |

As Monkey can output a C#.NET / XNA project for Windows Phone 7 I tought it would be useful to at least point you at some C# learning resources. That said I have reports that a monkey WP7 project can just be loaded into Visual Studio and compiled but either way these are good learning resources Ok here you go Learn C# - http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/C-Sharp-Fundamentals-Development-for-Absolute-Beginners Learn Windows Phone 7 - http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Windows-Phone-7-Development-for-Absolute-Beginners Windows Phone 7 in 7 - http://www.msdev.com/Directory/SeriesDescription.aspx?CourseId=158 John O'Donnell Microsoft http://www.twitter.com/jodonnel |
