Hello, Does this tablet look powerful enough to develop decent 2d games on? https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sunday-8th-december/product-detail/ps/p/178cm7-tablet-pc-medion-lifetab-e7316-md-98282/ |

Yes, should be. But I'd rather go for a Kindle Fire HD ;) |
| ||
Trying to do it on the cheap, i have an ipad3 but lost my hackintosh when i upgraded to haswell cpu. Just checked and argos claim to be selling kindleHD for £100, reduced from normal £159...tempting, although i'm not sure Argos arn't trying to sell the old KindleHD hoping we'll all think it's the new one. |

It's way more powerful than mine ;-) Seriously, a cheap and cheerful tablet is in many ways the best to develop on, unless you are going for really high-end games. If it works well on a low-end device, it will work well on anything. |

You can probably find a new Kindle Fire HD or a Nexus 7 1st gen for around £100, keep an eye on http://www.hotukdeals.com/computers/deals/hot - there is a Samsung Tab 3 7" going for £100 at Tesco http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-7inch-tablet-99-with-code-99-tesco-1736521 The main issue with non brand tablets is the specs are often good but the battery will be awful probably get 3-4 hours out of it but a branded tablet closer to 9-10 hours. |

Ive got a single core 1ghz tablet and it works fine for 2d games |
| ||
used nook tablet? that's as cheap and mainstream as i can think. may have to buy an androidfornook card, though. |
| ||
Are all android tablets 'unlocked' and ready to develop on? or is there a fee payable to google? |
| ||
No fee to develop, one-time fee of $30 to publish and be granted access to the dev console. Tablets may be locked or unlocked, depending on mfr/make/model. Best bet is of course a dev device like Nexus 7 but saturday night specials will also work provided you can connect them via ADB (be sure to check if the device is running stock or requires specialized debug drivers!) |

Similar here. I picked up a Versus Touchtab for 35 quid (android 4.0, 1ghz). Its basically rubbish, but its fine for monkey dev! It can still run most 2d games, but the memory/cpu is too low for anything demanding. Didnt have to change anything to get it working via monkey. If I were spending close to 100 quid I'd probably look more carefully for something decent though, there are some good bargains around, e.g. see whats on http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action=search&keywords=android+tablet |

That aldi tablet looks pretty decent for the money, screen res is a bit weak but other than that it looks ok. The weakest point seems to be 4 hour battery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_QdoMjw6-Y As per usual i'm now sliding towards spending extra money i don't have on the nexus7. |

Ordered a Nexus7 2013 16gb from ASDA direct, £179. |
| ||
tis' a fine tablet, defo the best 7", my only complaint is the requirement of an expensive ~£25 slimport adaptor to output via HDMI, no standard micro HDMI for some reason? though slimport is supposed to be be the 'new' standard. |
| ||
They are horribly fragile - one benefit of a cheap one is that if you break it you can just buy another... |

Turns out i can use my lumia920 as a hotspot for the nexus, nice bonus. |
