Hi all, I've just started a blog recently (see my sig) and want to share some of my stats of some of my apps. So if you're interested in statistics, just take a look there. I will post the plain numbers here as well.. My game Paint&Conquer has its first month in the markets and the numbers are quite surprising with Windows Phone going through the roof - well at least compared to iOS and Android. The numbers are quite disappointing as it's basically a free app but all in all I made €83,68 mostly from ads (Admob) in february. :) All in all I had 7897 downloads which is quite low for a free app BUT, 7411 downloads came from Windows Phone (7408 free, 3 paid), 224 from iOS and only 73 from Google Play. 73 downloads for a free app in a month! Not that much, eh... Cheers! |
| ||
nice blog mate.. will be sure to check it out from time to time. |
| ||
Interesting, I also found my free game got 10x more downloads on Windows Phone 8, what did you use for ads on WP8? did you get AdMob working? |
| ||
Yes I use Admob there as well. Getting Admob working for WP8 is very very easy. The harder part is to do that "hide and show" stuff. But as I show the ads all the time it was pretty straight forward. |
| ||
Xaron, Am I blind, where is the link to your Blog? I don't see a signature |
| ||
Thanks for posting. I am always interested in market data for indie apps. |

I think it is a pretty nice revenue for one month. 11 more games and you will have an income of around 1000 euro a month ;) I got a question though, which ad networks are you using on the iOS?? |
| ||
I use Admob only for all three platforms. :) |
| ||
I have read on various forums that WP downloads per user are generally much higher than either iOS or Android. It has also been noted that the platform monetizes higher than both also. it certainly is a growing platform particularly in Europe and Asia. |
| ||
@Xaron: Which ad types to you use and when are you displaying them? |
| ||
I use the smart banner at the bottom and show it all the time. |
| ||
Is that something custom or Monkeys admob implementation? |
| ||
That's Monkey's Admob implementation. Well beside WP8 where I added it by myself. |
| ||
Ok |
| ||
I like your one-post-blog! :) |

@nikoniko: There is a second one right now. :D Hi all, here come the numbers for my game Paint&Conquer for march: Android Downloads: 84 iOS Downloads: 53 (25 iPhone, 28 iPad) Windows Phone 8 Downloads: 387 (yay) There was exactly one sale for the full version on Android. Looks like someone accidently bought it. :D Regarding the ad revenue (Admob only) it looks like this: Android: 0.75€ iOS: 1.85€ (0.67€ iPhone, 1.18€ iPad) Windows Phone 8: 36.44€ (at least!) All in all this is a whopping revenue of 40.30€. Well… ok. I will release my next app within the next weeks so there might be still hope! LOL |
| ||
Congratulations on the admob sales. Please keep the reports coming. |

Hi there, another month passed by and this will be the first one with two reports as I released a kids puzzle recently! The numbers are still very low, nothing to get upbeat with it but at least especially the Windows Phone numbers are pretty strong and stable! Paint & Conquer Android Downloads: 68 (-16 from last month) iOS Downloads: 76 (+23 from last month) Windows Phone 8 Downloads: 2,795 (+2,408 from last month) Again I had exactly one sale - this time from an iPad user, so €1,09. Regarding the ad revenue (Admob only) it looks like this: Android: 0.55€ (-0.20€) iOS: 2.59€ (+0.74€) Windows Phone 8: 52.77€ (+16.33€) All in all this is a revenue of 57.00€ for April for Paint&Conquer. Toddler Fun Puzzles Right, so this is my second app listed here. A funny kids puzzle app for toddlers. I think this one is well put together even though the first numbers are disappointing as well. I still have no numbers for the iOS version because it's still in review and I had to struggle with that new kids section... Hmm... There is a free version (without ads!) plus the full one. But, this one is now listed in the Amazon and Nook (Barnes&Noble) store as well! Downloads Android: 9 (yes nine!) iOS: n/a Windows Phone 8: 515 (again a strong start!) Amazon: 2 Nook: 1 (there is only the full version there atm!) Sales Android: 0 iOS: n/a Windows Phone 8: 2 (2.18€) Amazon: 0 Nook: 1 (1.49€) All in all this is a revenue of 3.67€ for April for Toddler Fun Puzzles. Summarized Report February: 83.68€ March: 40.30€ (-43.38€) April: 60.67€ (+20,37€) |
| ||
Good pocket money. Keep going. |
| ||
This is very interesting! Thank you very for sharing this info. |
| ||
interesting... i had on android also lowest nr of downloads amazon much better, winphone again better but apple is the best my game flappy clone - was 1st test to publish something. so it is free - without ads, iap, etc... |
| ||
Well Amazon does well indeed but it had only a few days in April so we'll see how it goes in May. :) |
| ||
Here are the numbers for May, there was a surprising download spike coming from Switzerland for Paint & Conquer. I still wonder what happened there. :) Paint & Conquer Android Downloads: 130 (+62 from last month) iOS Downloads: 249 (+173 from last month) Windows Phone 8 Downloads: 743 (-2,052 from last month) Sales: Not a single one for Windows Phone but one for Android, one for iPad and a gigantic four for iPhone! So €6,36. Admob has changed a bit as well, Windows Phone revenue dropped but Android and iOS revenue increased a bit: Android: 3.25€ (+2.70€) iOS: 10.52€ (+7.93€) Windows Phone 8: 29.15€ (-23.62€) All in all this is a revenue of 49.28€ in May for Paint&Conquer. Toddler Fun Puzzles Downloads Android: 14 (+5 from last month) iOS: 227 Windows Phone 8: 1,506 (+991 from last month) Amazon: 15 (+13 from last month) Nook: 437 (+436 from last month) Sales Android: 1 (1.40€) iOS: 20 (20.68€) Windows Phone 8: 6 (6.54€) Amazon: 2 (3.02€) Nook: 11 (16.90€) All in all this is a revenue of 48.54€ for April for Toddler Fun Puzzles. Summarized Report February: 83.68€ March: 40.30€ (-43.38€) April: 60.67€ (+20.37€) May: 97.82€ (+37.15€) |
| ||
Thanks for continuing to post these. I really value your input and contributions to the Monkey community! |
| ||
Xaron Let's do an experiment - translate a game to Russian, you get Russia, Ukraine (may be), other ex-ussr countries. We get digits from you. Win-Win. |
| ||
Very disappointing, to be demotivated, numbers. Income of 1 month is on average what you make in 1 - 2 hours with contract work. How can making apps for big markets (some hundreds of million users) be so un-profitable, when you usually make much more with contract work for one end user/company? |
| ||
@nikoniko: Sure we can try that! I'm curious as well! :) @Danilo: I have a third app launched and will show the numbers as well. All in all I make about €600 per month atm with all my apps. |
| ||
If I release a game, it will be for fun. I think it is difficult to make a living from games. I make very good money working in the IT field. The only way I would leave is if a project I did in my spare time made it big. |
| ||
i read statistics that 95% of apps do not make more than 5000$ (per year?) |

How about lots of simple games coded into a robust framework? Think of graphics a level above Jayenkai's, with complexity about the same, and maybe not quite as original as his, but roughly the same release schedule of one a week or thereabouts? If each one makes 500 a year, after two years you're getting 48,000 assuming the long tail continues. The market is projected to double every year until 2016. |

| ||
Congrats on the release! |
| ||
Xaron do you have a separate paid version without ads? is that where paid sales come from? |
| ||
Well yes, usually I have a lite and a paid version for all of my games. The lite version comes with ads, the full doesn't have ads. |
| ||
In case anyone is interested I've put up the latest numbers, which you can find in my blog. Sorry won't copy those numbers here anymore, too much hassle with all these forum tags to do! |
| ||
Thanks for sharing! |
| ||
Very nice. Is it a lot of work pushing games on Amazon / Nook ? Or are they just Android targets with some special requirements? |
| ||
As long as you don't use any third party stuff, you can just submit the apps there as well! |
